A European Union Monitoring Mission in Georgia
The European Union has established a monitoring mission in Georgia since 2009. This mission is tasked with observing the situation on the ground and reporting back to the EU on any developments. Georgia has been preparing for possible EU membership since January 2021.
The EU and Georgia's Economic Potential
The EU supports Georgia in developing its economic potential through international cooperation. The accession of Georgia to the EU is on the current agenda for future enlargement of the EU. The EU cooperates with Georgia in the framework of the European Neighbourhood Policy.
Application and Membership Status
On 3 March 2022, Georgia applied for EU membership. Georgia was granted candidate status for EU membership in December 2023. Der Europäische Rat hat am 24 Juni 2022 die Empfehlung der Kommission angenommen und Georgien die. The EU and Georgia signed an Association Agreement in June 2014, which entered fully into force in July.
